Summertime Self-Care Ideas

Summer is around the corner, and although our lives are still upside down, it’s inspiring. This season is the perfect time to take some risks and indulge a bit. I love evenings eating outside, longer days and the possibilities summer brings. Here are some inspirations for summertime self-care ideas for wellness, fun and fashion!

Power Naps for Summertime Self-care

Summer is perfect for naps! A bit less to do, the sunshine and warmth. So how to get the most out of your nap? Dr. Daniel Pink, suggests a nappucino that you chug a cup of coffee minutes before your nap. Then, take a 15-20 minute nap, and that’s it! Not much longer to prevent waking up groggy! He claims you wake up alert, ready to focus and play hard. I love this concept because I’m definitely super groggy after naps usually.

Up the ante with your skincare routine

As a society, we aren’t programmed to take breaks! It’s just not part of our culture as much. We work around the clock. Taking some time for to renew your beauty routine is productive though! Carve a little time out to put a little something extra in your beauty routine. Exfoliation, dry brushing, serums, micro-needling at home, a great mask…..all of these are easy to incorporate and feel so self-indulgent! I’m trying to be more mindful of my my body care. Taking extra time to dry brush and moisturize, which I usually rush through! I take lots of time with my face but my body gets neglected.

Don’t Fret Heading Outside

Head outside with no hesitation of bug bites. I loved discovering Afterbite cream! Despite getting all sorts of insect bites, even on our family vacation, we were ok. It greatly reduces the itching sensation, check it out here!

Dance on Tables, kind of….

Summertime is a great time to move a little more! Whether it’s playing outside with the kiddos, gardening, or learning something you’e always wanted to! One of my biggest passions is learning dance choreography. It’s like a giant puzzle for my brain and the movement releases a wonderful feel good chemical cocktail of adrenline, serotinin and dopamine! In our on demand fitness program, we have dance -based workouts, but we also have short choreography pieces you can learn! If you’ve always wanted to learn a little dance, this is a great way to get your feet wet.

Wake up earlier & meditate

Waking up early is seriously the hardest thing for me. I’m a night owl. However, during the summer my body naturally wants to get up earlier. Yes, even mine. LOL. I like to take this extra time to breathe, pray and meditate. It always transforms my days and I always wish I could keep it up during the dark winter days. You don’t have to go crazy, easy breaths, and setting an intention for your day, as well as practicing gratitude is the ultimate summertime self-care! Pranayama breathing is amazing. Here’s how to in this link. I first saw this on Gisele Bundchen’s Instagram. She detailed how to the technique and I tried it on the spot and practice it daily ever since! Give it a try. It’s really powerful and a great way to take care of your anxiety, racing thoughts and stress.

I hope above all, you have fun this summer and you allow yourself to love freely. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that life is fragile and every moment counts. You don’t need to spend money or do anything extra-ordinary to have magical moments. Hope that you get to try these summertime self-care ideas and that you spoil yourself a little with TLC. XO, Z
