Power Mama Marisol Sarabia- Advice for New Working Moms

advice for new working moms

Meet my could be twin, baby sister, Marisol Sarabia. I’ve known her for her entire life obviously 🙂 and have long admired her focus, work ethic and creative problem solving. She was the girl that always listened to my parents, was let by faith and had immense talent in many areas. Now she’s a multi-hyphenate power mama and my business partner for the last 10 years at MaZi Dance Fitness. She has great advice about a lot of things; climbing the ladder, how to digest feedback, and much more. Here’s her advice for new working moms and creating the life you want.

The Ballerina

advice for new working moms

Marisol never cared much for dance and was my biggest cheerleader watching me dance. She was more or less thrown into dance and is probably the most gifted ballerina I have ever seen! Things came really easily to her so it could’ve been easy for her to slack off. In the interview she tells us how once she discovered the technical side of the art, she was hooked. True to form, this girl LOVES to be challenged!

Advice for New Working Mamas

I loved hearing how she made it all work with a demanding consulting job, our business and a new baby! She gave some real tactics on how to stay sane!

On Getting Feedback

dancer

As a dancer she’s been getting feedback her whole life. Feedback can be really hard to digest and make the most of it. Marisol mentioned that sometimes you have to wait to get feedback (if you can) until you’re emotionally ready to do so. That’s so true. There are times when we aren’t ready to be receptive to what other people have to say about our work performance or otherwise.

How She Relaxes

It’s safe to say that with a fresh one-year old, she’s still in the motherhood weeds. Not sure if we ever get out of those. 🙂 Being present and enjoying her baby sounds like it’s a significant way she relaxes. Putting the phone down and being present are key. I think this is a really important piece of advice for new working moms!

Working in Predominantly Male Field

Marisol works in a competitive consulting firm specializing in transmission and transportation engineering. Her team is usually all men. Having been in business school myself, I’m familiar with that scene. It can be uncomfortable and difficult to truly be yourself. She shares some personal things that she’s had to work on, that I think many of us can relate to.

I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed having it! I learned some things myself, and am excited for what she does next. For another wonderful Power Mama interview, check this one out with Ana Belaval!
