French chic- Liquid eyeliner 101

On the days were I have 2 minutes for my make-up I do liquid eyeliner and bold lips, nothing else! It looks put together and as you get more time (or not) throughout the day you can continue adding. If you have a date or dinner outing, you can refresh your look by adding more lipstick my bronzer/highlighter/blush trick from this post or dab on some eyeshadow from this post!

Applying liquid eyeliner is all about your attitude. You need to be fearless and not stop and look back at every little mistake. LOL. Sounds like life coaching! Keep the momentum going and then go back and fix the things that went wrong.

Tools:

  1. Felt-tipped liquid eyeliner in black- not waterproof
  2. Pencil eyeliner in Brown (not black brown)
  3. A Q-Tip
  4. Make-up remover

Technique:

  1. The first 2-3 times you try this set aside 15 minutes and be prepared to mess up. It really is a practice play. Practicing will make you confident, and confidence will lead to a steady hand.
  2. If you’re right handed, I recommend that you start on the left eye, outer corner and move across both eyes towards the right hand side, and opposite of that if you’re left-handed. There will be a bit of back and forth but start working in one direction with minimal stopping.
  3. Have your Q-tip ready to fix mistakes.
  4. Start with your pencil eyeliner which will develop the muslce memory, give you something to trace and is far more forgiving than liquid. Go in the same direction as in the video, left to right.
  5. Once you’ve traced your path for liquid, then grab your liquid eyeliner, take as much excess off as possible, and watch for little scruffies over time that will mess up your line. Trim if necessary.
  6. You’re ready to go! Starting on left-hand size corner inhale, exhale and draw your line as thickly as possible starting in the outer corner of your left eye moving towards the center and thinning out. Stop assess, and go back and thicken the outer corner if you want more of cat-eye look.
  7. Now the right eye! Start in the inner corner thinly, so maybe don’t freshen your wand just yet. Get to the middle of your eye and see if you need more liquid on the wand. Finish off your eye a bit thicker as you started with the left eye.
  8. Take a breather, assess. Fix what went wrong with your Q-tip dabbed in light make-up remover.
  9. Play around with what flatters your eye shape. Try thicker, longer outer corners or add fake eyelashes under the eyeliner for a big statement!

To recap, keep the liner moving, dab off excess, go in one direction starting with the opposite side eye you write with. I love to finish off this look with bold lips like red OR bright berry gloss for a minimalist French look.

Hope this was helpful! Would love to hear your thoughts. XO, Z
