Beachy waves with hot tools! Easy, breezy.

For the longest time, my “hot tool” hair routine consisted of straightening my hair or putting hot rollers in. Hot rollers, bless their hearts, are great in a hurry but never gave me the twisty, textured look that I craved for that SJP look. Disclaimer: I used to be THE most impatient person in the world, see this post to see what I mean. Now I’m just average impatient but still want good hair, ya know? I spent a good amount of time at blow-out salons before when I had just one kid. Then the second one hit, and boom! NO more time. I have to pick between basic self-care appointments (dentist, chiropractor, eating meals) and usually going to get a blow-out doesn’t make the list. Weird.

THANKFULLY, my dear favorite stylist at Dream Dry mentioned to me one day, “so do you want some tips on how to do this at home?” I laughed like an evil villain and said, no thanks, I won’t ever be able to do it. But she persisted. And after a couple of comical sessions at home where it looked like my 2 year old had done my hair, I started to gain confidence. Like everything; mascara, liquid eyeliner, public speaking and parenting, faking it until you make it is key. TheĀ curling iron knows you’re scared so you have to be bold! Below is a little video I made to help you get started if you want to dabble in curling your hair at home for the coveted beachy waves!

Some considerations:

-Make it HOT. I use Hot Tools, and I think it’s as hot as they go before you get to professional grade curling irons. Please note that for the look above you need a thick 1 1/4 inch size rod.

– Use PROTECTION against the heat. Product I like in video.

– Third time is the CHARM. It’s not going to be great the first time, but it will get better! Be consistent where you begin your curl, wait 10-20 seconds depending on your hair thickness, and use product! I make some recommendations in the video!

Have fun, and let me know how it goes! XO, Z
