Recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci Outfit

I loved this iconic Tom Ford since the moment I saw it in 1996! So when a favorite brand, Ralph Lauren came out with red velvet suit moment this season, I instantly saw recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci Outfit for the MTV Awards in the 90’s. If you’re a 90’s girl like me, and love a great statement outfit, then you’ll probably agree that this is a fantastic quiet luxury has a party look! Here’s how to recreate this look at different price points!

The Red Velvet Blazer

A key part in recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci Outfit is the red velvet blazer! This one is more burgandy red than the wine red that the Tom Ford suit actually is. One of the things that is missing is the piping on the lapels, which is a pro and a con. It’s a pro because it makes the blazer more versatile for a different range of occassions from dressy to casual. It’s con because well…..it’s not AS fancy! What I love about this Ralph Lauren blazer is the gold buttons at the waist and the cuffs. Even better, the material is stretchy, comfortable and super soft. I can picture wearing it with jeans, a slip skirt, you name it!

At $325 however, it’s an investment. If you want the look of the blazer for less, try this one at $69! I have this blazer and it’s absolutely GORGEOUS and high quality as well. The one little problem is that it doesn’t come with matching bottoms.

My Outfit

The Trousers

The Ralph Lauren trousers are pretty true to size. In my quest for this look, I got 2 sizes since my first size wasn’t available; 4P and 0. I’m typically a 0, but it was initally sold out so I put my name in to be alerted when it was back in stock. A quick note about sizing, both seem to fit me very similarly. The 4P were loose at the waist but not significantly shorter than regular inseam. I’m 5’4 so I can go both ways; petite and regular.

The ones pictures are regular and I wouldn’t dare wear them without heels. My heels by the way are, INEZ, an insanely comfortable shoe brand that allows me to wear heels and be able walk at the same time. Get 15% OFF shoes sitewide with code ZIBA15. Back to the pants, these are very comfortable and will work all winter long with different looks and tops. I didn’t know I needed them until now. 🙂

BETTER FOR BUDGET OPTIONS HERE:

The Blue Boyfriend Button Down

My button shirt is actually my husband’s! Her exact look calls for having the cuffs sticking out of the blazer sleeves, in dramatic, menswear inspired look. However, it’s perfectly balanced by a little cleavage moment that I was able to achieve by pulling my shirt back with a hair tie and tucking behind. You can actally see what I’m talking about in the picture of the trousers. It looks like I have a ponytail in the back!

For recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci outfit, the shade of blue is key! You want a soft baby blue that somehow (who knew), works perfectly with the burgandy red. OBSESSED.

Accessories

Great news friends, they’re minimal. GF isn’t even wearing a purse! She’s wearing tiny earrings that are hard to make out exactly what they are and very quiet luxury gold chain with a tiny pendant. So in recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci outfit, you don’t really have to sweat the small stuff because there ain’t any.

Since we’re talking accessories, I’ll mention that in 1996 her shoes appear to be red platforms! If you don’t have those lying around I would suggest a neutral shade; nude, or a metallic like the ones I’m wearing.

Hair

If you want to get super carried away in recreating Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci outfit, you could also pull your hair up! She effortlessly swept her hair up into a French twist with some loose wispies to frame the face. My hair is darker and I have bangs, so I didn’t quite get there. I think that if you wear your hair in a effortless way, it exudes the balance and vibe of boss vibes meets girl next door.
